Problem

  • Integrate with Moodle
  • Track video usage
  • Enforce attention to video by requiring feedback — pop quizzes.

Clarifying the Problem

  • Do the videos presently exist?
  • Are you planning to capture the videos as they play or create the videos from scratch?

Captivate vs. SCORM

  • SCORM is a set of standards.
  • Captivate is a screen-capture tool that allows integration of quizzes and other activities as part of watching the output.
  • You do not need Captivate to create SCORM units.
  • You do need the SCORM module for Moodle to use SCORM units.

Possible strategy

  • Break the video into units.
  • Make it mandatory to view the unit before taking the quiz.
  • Make it mandatory to pass the quiz before viewing the next unit?
  • Report units watched and quizzes taken to the markbook.
Not as smooth as having integrated quizzes in the video (Captivate seems to do this), but "the poor have more time than money."
"Grade students when they see a video."
Guillermo Madero
1. You trust them. Then you can enable and use Activity completion (students mark the activity as completed).
2. Or you think that it would be best to at least know that they clicked on the activity (and then have that action taken as a grade). Then you could use the SCORM module, where the learning material would be in a Shareable Content Object (SCO).

What I do for instances like this is to put a short quiz that will only open if they view the video/file. Then I make sure the questions can only be answered if they watched the video./read the file.
"How to make lesson complete only after watching video."
Jaswinder Singh
You can use the activity completion feature of Moodle. Just restrict the access of lesson 2 on completion of lesson 1 or video.
