Retreats

"Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed" (Mark 1:35).

"[Jesus] remained outside in deserted places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere" (Mk 1:45).

"He would withdraw to deserted places to pray" (Lk 5:16).

One of the great tools from the Catholic tradition that has fallen into disuse is the retreat.

On a retreat, we withdraw from ordinary life, go to a "deserted place," and consecrate a period of time to seeking God in prayer.
