The New Dark Ages

We are in deep trouble. Of course, theologically, it is a just punishment for the sins of our nation. We put out our own eyes when we decide to sin and tolerate sin as national policy (abortion, euthanasia, same-sex marriage, etc.). The Enlightenment has turned into a new Dark Age: "You say you see, and yet you are blind."

John 9:39-41

³⁹ Then Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment, so that those who do not see might see, and those who do see might become blind.”

⁴⁰ Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard this and said to him, “Surely we are not also blind, are we?”

⁴¹ Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you are saying, ‘We see,’ so your sin remains.

The barbarians threatening civilization are coming from within. They are spiritual forces rather than invading hordes from the north: relativism, materialism, gnosticism, atheism, pragmatism, narcissism. The new barbarians cannot be defeated by force of arms. They can only be converted and healed by the sovereign grace of God.
