Mad Dog

Mark Rawls gave me an old 1.20 trainer that he had salted away for a rainy day that never came.

The plane is a Roadrunner. It has a 90" wingspan and weighs about 14 pounds with the small engine and about 16 pounds with the larger engine & ballast.

I'm using the plane as a break-in vehicle for two MVVS gasoline engines I bought from Ed Cregger last year: a 26 cc (1.6 ci) and a 35 cc (2.15 ci). The 1.6 smaller engine has flew for a couple of hours; I've now got about 20 flights with the larger engine, too.

Depending on how things go, I may put the wraparound header and a tuned pipe on (unless I get the UltraSport 1000 monokoted first--then I'll put the 26cc & the pipe on that.) The header was custom-built by Karl G. Mueller in Canada--gorgeous work, supremely reasonable price.

October 31, 2003: The 35 cc engine with its new Pitts muffler. Three days of flying, so far.
It starts and runs like a champ.

I've also added some extra color to the airplane to make it a little more visible in the air.
