			The Sanskrit word '''karma''' means action, the consequences of action, or prescribed action, in the sense of duty, fate, or destiny.

			Our English proverb, "As ye sow, so shall ye reap," expresses the fundamental principle expressed by '''karma''': those who do good will receive good as a consequence, while those who do evil will suffer evil as a consequence.

			I like the word and the concept insofar as they are synonyms for the principle of perfect and immediate justice. All of our actions affect us first before they have an effect on the world around us. We are the first beneficiary or victim of the choices we make. Those who do good become good; those who do evil become evil.

			I don't like the Hindu theology of reincarnation or the various concepts of "true self" with which the doctrine of karma is associated.
