Etymology

  • First order: men living a full religious life under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
  • Second order: women living a full religious life under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
  • Third order: laity participating as much as possible in the spirituality of an order but remaining in the world.

  • Carmelites
