Opening Prayer
Dearest Saint Lucy,
your name means light;
by the light of faith
which God bestowed upon you,
increase and preserve his light in my soul,
so that I may avoid evil,
be zealous in the performance of good works,
and abhor nothing so much as the blindness
and the darkness of evil and sin.
Please obtain for me from God
perfect vision for my bodily eyes
and the grace to use them
for God’s greater honor and glory
and for the salvation of souls.
St. Lucy, Virgin and Martyr,
hear my prayers
and obtain what I ask.
Amen.
First Day
1 As he passed by he saw a man blind from birth.
2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?â€
3 Jesus answered, “Neither he nor his parents sinned; it is so that the works of God might be made visible through him.
4 We have to do the works of the one who sent me while it is day. Night is coming when no one can work.
5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.â€
6 When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva, and smeared the clay on his eyes,
7 and said to him, “Go wash in the Pool of Siloam†(which means Sent). So he went and washed, and came back able to see.
Second Day
35 When Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, he found him and said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?â€
36 He answered and said, “Who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?â€
37 Jesus said to him, “You have seen him and the one speaking with you is he.â€
38 He said, “I do believe, Lord,†and he worshiped him.
39 Then Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment, so that those who do not see might see, and those who do see might become blind.â€

Relying on Your goodness, O God,

hear our prayers
and obtain for us from God all that we need and desire.
