We are in deep trouble. Of course, theologically, it is a just punishment for the sins of our nation. We put out our own eyes when we decide to sin and tolerate sin as national policy (abortion, euthanasia, same-sex marriage, etc.). The Enlightenment has turned into a new Dark Age: "You say you see, and yet you are blind."

The barbarians threatening civilization are coming from within. They are spiritual forces rather than invading hordes from the north.
