By "aspirations," I mean short, heartfelt, often repeated prayers that help us cope with difficulties.
- St. Philip Neri
- As soon as a man feels that he is tempted, he should fly to God, and devoutly utter that petition which the fathers of the desert so much esteemed:
- Deus in adjutorium meum intende; Domine ad adjuvandum me festina: "God, come to my assistance; Lord, make haste to help me."
- Cor mundum crea in me Deus: "A clean heart create in me, O God."
- As soon as a man feels that he is tempted, he should fly to God, and devoutly utter that petition which the fathers of the desert so much esteemed:
- "My Jesus, mercy!"
- "I love you, Jesus, my love."
- "Jesus, I trust in you."
- "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner."
- "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph."
- "I adore you, O Christ, and I bless you, because by your Holy Cross you are redeeming me."
- "My Lord and my God."
- "Wash me, Lord, from my iniquity; cleanse me from my sin" (Ps 51:2).
