St. Gianna (1922-1962) died giving birth to her fourth child. She refused to have a hysterectomy which would have saved her life but killed her fourth child.
"Gianna was beatified by Pope John Paul II on April 24, 1994, and officially canonized a saint on May 16, 2004. Gianna's husband Pietro and their last child, Gianna, were present at the canonization ceremony. ... St. Gianna is a patron saint for mothers, physicians, and unborn children." (ibid.).
