My Great Western Auto Tour

Well, I've been home for a week. I got my bags unpacked and stowed away. My laundry is done. I've found one filing cabinet, so it's time to reorganize my rooms to house the Polanyi collection. Ron Sams, the minister, and Dan Lelito, one of the maintenance men, doubt that I have room anywhere for the cabinets. I've got at least two areas I can use. I'll spend a while with a tape measure and a pipe deciding which spot seems best. Right this minute, I'm leaning towards my second closet, but the tape measure may change my mind.

Since I came home, I inherited a ton of airplane stuff from Dan Warner, who has been doing some spring cleaning during the monsoons. I decided to start by building a little work bench organizer that he gave me.

The organizer is a little small, considering how big the bench is that needs organizing.

What did I learn from my trip? I love to travel this way. I'll try something like this again in 2006 on my next sabbatical, all things being equal. I'd love to go back out west to see Dom and Dez, but there's also eastern Canada and New England to tour. I circled around the Badlands, Idaho, and Montana; I'd also like to see Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. For the next Western Auto Tour, I could try to draw a big loop through those areas.

I also learned that I love the green, rainy, tree-covered hills of home. It's good to be back where I started.
